Intro

Classic and vintage sites often focus in on the golden age of porn from the 1970's however some like Retro Porn Archive feature content from before that as these guys have stuff from the 1920's thru 1960's. It's a photo and video collection with both softcore and hardcore material. Guests can get a pretty good feel for the collection from the guest tour samples and they have a 'You'll Find here' content count ticker at the top-right that has accurate info on the content totals.

The Pros

Vintage 1910's-60's Photos/Videos, Softcore & Hardcore.

Retro Porn Archive deserves credit for having a fairly unique collection of content. They have material from all the decades between the 10's and 60's with everything ranging from solftcore glamour material to full on hardcore action. Looking at the archive breakdown the 30's thru 50's are where most of the items are from. For a general vintage archive these guys have done a pretty nice job of compiling lots of stuff that's quite varied.

Sizable Archive, Good Amount of Both Photos & Videos.

The quantity is a positive here. For a targeted vintage site the fact that they have over 12k photos and 400 video scenes is impressive. The two main categories they use to break down the collection are Porn and Erotica. A surprising plus to me is that over half the videos fit in the Porn category so there is quite a lot of hardcore. As might be expected the photos are heavily weighted towards the Erotica genre with mostly solo girl softcore.

Other Good Stuff:

The Flash video streaming works well and allows for immediate jumping ahead. They also have FLV full-scene files for downloading.
A content search/filter tool is useful in filtering down by any combination of porn/erotica, decade, and niche action.

The Cons

Only Flash Format Videos, As Expected Content Quality is Low.

As a trade-off for the specialty old content the picture and video quality is quite low and that is something that vintage fans are probably used to. If a site like this had high-res content it would be amazing. Here the pics are small and the videos are quite grainy. All videos are only in Flash format for both streaming and downloading which is a bit awkward. I'm not sure why there aren't WMV or some other format for the downloads.

Mixed Bag of Content, Some Stuff is Better than Others.

This is one of those archives where members are likely to find some stuff that is of interest and other items that they find not worth looking at. The wide ranging archive concept means you have to take the good with the bad.

Minor Negatives:

The site doesn't seem to be updating any longer so it seems the collection will just remain as-is for here on out.
While it is fairly unique stuff in terms of style the material isn't exclusive.

The other

Most of the videos have background music.

Bottom Line

Lots of vintage porn photos & videos with content from the 1910's thru 1960's.

Retro Porn Archive is a nice general collection of porn content from those decades back when porn was still getting going. The main positives are the amount of content and I particularly like the blend of softcore items along with the hardcore videos. The Flash only formatting is something to take note of since not many sites have FLV as their download format like this site does.
