Rear Stable is up for review today, and it looks like a hardcore gay site brought to you by Raging Stallion Studios. They produce DVDs of course, and feature those here. One big question that I don't know the answer to is whether or not this content is exclusive. It's all original at least, but I don't know if they sell it to other gay or DVD sites out there. Beyond that, it's a pretty basic site with your standard hardcore sex scenes. They offer both DVD content and some photo galleries, so there should be something for everyone. Membership is $30 a month, which I guess is about what I'd expect here.
The Pros
Decent size.
It's a little tough to get a full count of everything, but they offer over 100 DVDs currently (each with a few scenes), and over 250 models with multiple picture galleries each. There's definitely a good bit of content here, as long as you can find it all.
Updates do come here.
Again, it's tough to get a good grip on how often they come exactly (even the latest updates section is out of order), but at least weekly they throw something new up. Photo sets may be added every two weeks, and videos could come weekly. Plus, there are the weekly live cam shows.
Other Good Stuff:
At least all the content comes from one studio, so it's all original. I don't know if it's actually exclusive to this site specifically though.
It looks like they have one live cam show a week with a model, which is a cool interactive touch.
The two different streaming options (Flash and WMV) are a nice touch, and each has different quality options.
The Cons
Videos are DRM protected.
All their videos are either DRM protected, or can be streamed. There's no way to download and keep the videos, which is a bummer. The DRM specs aren't good either, with the license being pretty strict (you can't do anything with the videos) and they expire in just two days from the download.
Quality could be better.
I'll explain more on the pictures below, but the video quality could use a small boost. Since these are coming straight from the source of the DVD, I think they can get them looking quite a bit better. They're not bad or anything, but with the source material they have, a definite boost is needed.
Navigation is a big pain.
I was pretty confused for the first 10 minutes or so on this site. First, the video DRM login didn't work. Then, I tried to view some pictures, and couldn't find just a big list of galleries (hint: there is none). When you head to the model's pages, you see some thumbnails which aren't clickable, which confused me more. It turns out that you have to scroll down on the model's page to see the actual content. I'd like a separate photo gallery section like they have for videos, and also a nice search feature added to get things started here.
Small pics look dated.
The pictures are incredibly small here for some reason. The largest I found were 720x480 that were added just a few days ago. The older ones get even smaller, and they look pretty pathetic. Many have an older feel to them for some reason, and I just didn't like them overall.
Minor Negatives:
I had one or two instances where I couldn't get the DRM page to load in WMPlayer, which made the video useless for a while.
They have model's pages, which is how you browse the site mostly, but no model biographies. I'd love more info on these guys.
The picture galleries have no zip files, which was a bummer to see.
Bottom Line
Just an okay collection and a confusing site.
The size of the site isn't bad here, but I think that's the best part of everything at Rear Stable. The site is very confusing to get around, and there are a lot of restrictions (DRM, no zip files, no search features, etc.). The quality is just so-so, and looks pretty dated at times. Plus, updates are hard to figure out, along with the confusing navigation. If the content is all exclusive, I'd say it's a decent enough site to check out. But if there are other places you can see this material, it may be a little easier and less restrictive to try somewhere else. I'd just love more user-friendly features to be added, and to get an easier site with a few more options going.
