American Kittens is up for review today, and the basic theme here is to offer a look at American girls in everyday life scenes. The theme is pretty generic I guess, but it equates to some hot amateur girls, and the content has a little edge to it in the tour. You'll see bright colors in the outfits and locations, which gives them a unique look. However, make sure you click through to the second page of the tour, as I feel that is more indicative of what you'll find inside (they're just a little more generic than the front page). Otherwise, as I said, the girls look good, so I can't complain much. Membership is $25 for the first month, but that drops to $20 a month after that.
The Pros
Lots of photo galleries.
While the video section is rather small, there are over 500 photo galleries up currently, which isn't too bad. The content is all exclusive of course, so that helps even more.
Daily updates.
Something new is put up every single day, and since it's usually a new photo gallery, there's no doubt that's how they got their good-looking numbers here. I hope the trend continues, and it seems like it will since they have the whole rest of the month mapped out already in terms of new sets.
Pictures look good.
All of the top three pros here have something to do with the photos, so I think it's safe to say that this is a decent photo site. The pictures come in pretty large, and the lighting and setup looks good overall.
Other Good Stuff:
The girls are definitely good-looking here, better than you usually see.
The Cons
Not many videos.
By comparison, there just aren't that many videos on the site right now. There are about 20 of them currently, and they don't get any new ones except for one every month or two. They really need to step this part of the site up.
Downloads were a bit slow.
They weren't horrible, but they definitely didn't come close to our connection speed unfortunately. You can check the stats, but even with a download manager, there was some solid room for improvement in there.
Video quality could be bumped up.
The videos came in a little small usually, though some were larger than others, and just needed a boost in quality. Some of them showed signs of pixelation and graininess, while others looked a little better. It was just up and down a lot, but overall, better is always better.
Minor Negatives:
The dropdown search boxes didn't seem to work for me, and I think they could add a better search setup anyway.
Each video offered completely different specs from the others. Some were WMV only, some were Flash only, and others offered MP4, MPG, and MOV.
For some reason, some thumbs don't load here for me. It's not even a missing picture, but like a squished down thumbnail or something. It happens everywhere, from the main page to viewing galleries.
The pictures in landscape orientation are larger than the ones in portrait. Why not make them all the larger size?
Bottom Line
Cute girls and pics, but it's a little lackluster overall.
I'd join American Kittens for the girls and the pictures, as they're the solid parts of the site for sure. The rest, such as the videos and site itself, could use some work. First, I think they need more videos on the site, especially considering how many photos there are. Second, the site uses a script that is pretty basic, and doesn't offer a ton of different options to find the content. Videos could also use a small quality bump, and some consistency in the types of videos offered. The daily updates really help, and I hope those continue. It's not bad overall, but I think they could do a lot more with the content they have here. These girls are winners.
