(recurring)AC Movie Pass is up for review today, and here's a site (finally!) that you can watch some porn while being air conditioned perfectly. To tell you the truth, I have no idea what the AC stands for, but they do shorten their name to ACMP a lot. It looks like most every other DVD site out there, and bears a striking resemblance to one of the top DVD sites if you ask me. The basics are all the same with lots of content, and a discounted price (for our users) of $20 a month. And oh yeah, there are no downloads at all here - wtf??
As expected with a site like this, the numbers in terms of content are pretty good. They offer over 5,000 scenes currently, which should keep you busy finding things you like. It may be one of the smaller DVD sites out there, but they're much larger than most any other paysite you'll come across.
Updates in the gay section of the site still come daily at this point, which is pretty good to see.
People joining a DVD site like this definitely expect downloads. To only offer streaming is definitely not the norm, and that's going to upset a lot of people. On top of that, the streaming setup is very basic, and doesn't even offer multiple options, good features, or good quality.
As I mentioned, the streaming videos here look pretty bad. The videos are on the small side, and they are way over-compressed. They look like videos we saw 4-5 years ago honestly, which is not good news at all.
As is expected with a site like this, they don't seem to offer any exclusive content of their own. They make up for the lack of exclusivity with bigger numbers at least.
The last update for the main straight content was back in August, 2010. That's almost five months that have passed since the last update there, so I'm not sure what's up. They do still update the gay section, so it's not like the site is completely dead.
They cover all the basics with ways to browse by studio, actress, category, etc. However, they never get beyond those basics. Again, to compete, you need to be on top of your game in every aspect. I'd look for a much more advanced search, and just more options all around.
In the crowded market of DVD megasites like this, you have to do everything you can to compete and bring people to your site instead of the countless alternatives out there. It seems like AC Movie Pass did the opposite unfortunately. You want daily updates, or more; they stopped updating the straight section months ago. You want the highest quality possible in the most formats and options possible; they decided to offer a streaming WMV only in an extremely low quality for DVD content. You want multiple ways to navigate the site along with advanced search features; they offer they basics, but nothing more. You want to try to woo (or pay for) a few higher-end brands to offer some content that's a little more unique; they offer all the usual suspects, but nothing more. While it's an okay site, the low quality and lack of downloads alone would make me look elsewhere. There's just too many good DVD sites out there to settle.
