Intro

1 Gay Pass is a network of gay sites featuring original content that's a mix of hardcore and solo guy action. Something that jumps out at me right away is the balance between the number of sites in the network and the amount of total content. 1 Gay Pass is unusual in that they have less than half a dozen total sites but there is actually a lot of content available with over a thousand total videos and a couple thousand picture galleries. Most networks have a lot of sites with a relatively small amount of content on each so these guys buck that trend. The guest tour is straightforward with a sample movie trailer and a link to each sites%u2019 individual tour.

The Pros

Network of Hardcore/Solo Gay Content, Nice Mix of Niche Concepts.

1 Gay Pass' collection is a blend of videos and picture galleries and it's a pretty good balance overall. The videos are the centerpiece on most of the sites as the set-up often revolves around episodes with a videos shoot and accompanying picture gallery. A couple sites have distinctly separate picture and video sections, most notably Boyz Party. Both guy/guy hardcore and solo guy masturbation action is featured in the network.

Lots of Exclusive Content, Most Sites have Several Hundred Videos.

Upon seeing the number of sites in the network I expected a much smaller collection than is actually available. The majority of sites feature two or three hundred total episodes which adds up quickly. So not only is the total amount of content a plus but it's also noteworthy that the content is spread out fairly evenly between the different sites.

Full-Video WMV Files are a Consistent Option Across Collection.

While there are video quality and option differences throughout the collection I did find full-video WMV files as a consistent choice on nearly all of the movies. Sometimes the quality isn't all that good but the format seems like it's available on the majority of movies.

Other Good Stuff:

Newest episodes have downloadable HD movies (WMV 5000k 1280x720) without any DRM restrictions plus Flash streaming.
There are episodes with behind-the-scenes/interview segments along with the main content shoot.
The download speed is pretty fast.
They seem to update the network on a weekly basis. Some recent updates and coming soon info is posted.

The Cons

Older Videos Have Only Low Quality Files Available.

On the bulk of the shoots they relegate the lower quality level to the WMV download and have higher quality for the streaming file. The specs on some of the WMV downloads can be downright low at around 300k 300x200. These movies are grainy and not up to what I'd expect from a paysite. There is also MPEGs and Real player formats mixed in as other formats.

Most Episodes Have DRM Protected Higher-Quality Videos.

The set-up on a lot of the episodes is to have low quality WMV downloads available and then the higher level WMV files are downloadable but DRM protected. Now they seem to have dropped this set-up on the newest HD movies which have no DRM but this restriction still makes up a big part of the collection which is a negative that really stands out. Nowadays surfers expect downloads and the trend is towards more download options so when DRM is in place that really hurt the value of a collection like this.

Choppy Navigation, User/Pwd Entry Required for Sites & Videos.

There is quite a difference between the simplicity of the guest tour and the member's area design. Member's have to re-enter their login for each site upon visiting it for the first time. I also got login prompts from videos several times. The individual sites themselves do not all have the same member's area layout and the navigation isn't all that smooth. They also don't have any network wide search tools, model index, or browsing features.

Minor Negatives:

The individual sites have links and upsells on the left and right margins which makes for a cluttered design.
There appears to be some restrictions on donload managers. Using IDM I got only 1-channel and no pause/resume capability.
Update details are vague. Episodes aren't date stamped with update details.
High recurring price off the trial option, join page cross-sells, and pop-ups.

Bottom Line

A gay niche network with a small number of sites but a lot of overall content.

For a network with the number of sites 1 Gay Pass has an impressive database of content. It's s solid collection of original guy/guy hardcore and solo shoots. The fact that they're now going to HD level movies also stood out even though it only constitutes a very small amount of the collection at this time. There are two main negatives that left me really frustrated and those are the navigation and DRM protected videos. Both of those things really annoyed me and I think they take away from how much members can enjoy the content. It would really be a formidable network if they would clean up the design and dump the DRM restrictions and allow members unfettered access to all the downloads.
