Intro

Shackled Maidens is up for review today, and I'd call this an artsy bondage photography site for the most part. The girls are generally solo, and of course restrained in some manner. The lighting and shadows, along with the colors, are used very well to make for some interesting photography. There are videos as well, and those vary a little more, though they aren't a huge focus here. $27 gets you in for the first month, and that drops down to $25 a month if you decide to stick around.

The Pros

Some great BDSM photography here.

The photos are definitely very unique and interesting, and are the main reason to join the site here. The sets usually feature some type of bondage, and the term shackled fits well, as there are lots of metal restraining devices used. The lighting and colors are also great in the photographs to help keep things interesting.

With almost 570 galleries online currently, there's quite a bit to see here. The archives go back to 2004, and unlike a lot of sites, the content is very good even back then.

Other Good Stuff:

The content seems to be all-exclusive here, as the scenes are very similar to each other. There's a certain style going on that you can notice.

The Cons

Doesn't seem to be updating anymore.

The last update was about two months ago, and there's been nothing since then. The updates had been so consistent before that that it's definitely worrisome when they stopped. I hope it's temporary, but I fear the worst here. Enjoy what they have I guess.

Needs more videos.

With just over 30 videos, there are nowhere near as many of them as there are photos. It's a shame, too, since some of the videos are pretty fun. If updates do pick back up, I'd love to see a definite effort to boost the video count.

Navigation is a bit plain.

There's a models index, and they break things down into groups, but there are no real navigation tools here. It's not necessarily difficult to get around, as it's not a cluttered site or anything, they just need more options with this much material.

Minor Negatives:

The forum is broken here, with some kind of MySQL error popping up. I'm not sure if this is temporary, or permanent at this point.
For some reason, they don't offer any streaming or Flash videos, which may annoy some.
The section where they list their toys used is a 404 error currently. If you could browse by the type of restraint, back when it worked, that would have been a nice feature.

Bottom Line

Some very interesting content and great photos, but the lack of videos and updates hurt them.

Shackled Maidens carved a nice little niche out in the BDSM world to make them unique. I wouldn't call this any type of domination or anything, as there's very little interaction going on. You do get some great scenes of cute girls restrained in some pretty distressing-looking situations. The photography is unique, mostly in terms of lighting and colors. The videos can be fun, too, but aren't a huge focus here. I'd love to see more of them going forward of course. The lack of updates for the last two months is the bigger problem, and I'm afraid that they're all done here. I hope that's not the case, but for now, I'd watch the updates with a keen eye.
