Intro

Strictly Broadband is PPV DVD movie site that functions with a movie rental system. Unlike many other VOD movie sites they don't charge by the minute but have tickets that allow members to rent access full movies for 7 or 14 days for 1 ticket or 1 year for 2 tickets. The guest tour has an open book layout where visitors can browse the entire site before signing up to see what DVDs, niches, and performers they have. What you see it what you get which is probably the best type of tour for a site like this.

The Pros

Several Thousand full DVD movies, Mix of American & UK Titles.

As should be the case with a DVD rental site of this kind the quantity is the main positive. They have a few thousand total full-length movies which translates into a whole lot of individual scenes. The content covers just about every popular niche along with specialty categories and I particularly like the fact that they clearly have lots of UK pornstars and movies to go along with the American titles. This is a sizable collection that's well suited for a general hardcore audience.

Niche, Studio, & Pornstar Browsing, Helpful 'My Account' Page.

The member's area layout functions just like the guest tour and they have in place most of the basics that are needed to get around a collection of this size. Niche categories are posted down the left margin along with a studio list, popular pornstar index, and a keyword search. The My Account page is straightforward with a summary of past purchases, active titles, and ticket information related to your account. Managing rentals and tickets can be easily done.

Other Good Stuff:

There are some HD movies available with a niche section for those titles.
The in-browser Flash movies buffer quickly which makes for simple viewing in that format.
The popular pornstar model index page tags UK performers with a British flag which is a nice touch.
Each movie's individual page has hyperlinked performer names along with the front and back box cover.

The Cons

Average Video Quality/Specs for Most Movies, Varying Formats.

Other than the small collection of HD movies the majority of DVDs have only average specs or actually specs that are below what I expect from a paysite. The varying WMV and Flash formats is strange to see from a rental/PPV site like this as usually they have a standard set-up throughout the collection. Very little information about the formats or specs are shown on the movies which would have been helpful info to have for choosing which titles to rent.

Incomplete Model Index w/ No Preview Pics, No Advanced Search.

The navigation features could be enhanced and these are a couple of particular items that I found to be weaknesses. The model index is of "popular pornstars" only so it's an incomplete list and it is also text only. The lack of preview pictures makes it a less valuable navigation tool than it otherwise could be. The keyword search is very basic and a more detailed search/filter tool is something I expected to see from a site with this much content.

No Update Specifics are Provided, Movies Aren't Date-Stamped.

There is a section which shows the latest movies however they are simply numbered without any specific dates on them. Individual moves also don't have update details. Really, it's tough to know how often they are adding new content.

Minor Negatives:

The price per ticket is fairly high and in British Pounds. This can get expensive very quickly and just a couple movie rentals can cost as much or more than full monthly membership to other DVD sites.
There isn't much information on the individual movie scenes nor do they show the studio info on the individual movie pages.

Bottom Line

Weekly or yearly DVD rentals with a mix of U.S. & U.K. movies.

The most distinctive part of Strictly Broadband is the pricing structure with the rental ticket system. The quantity is the site's best attribute however the video quality and formatting is a weakness. The newer HD movies section is notable but overall they haven't provided that one feature or option that would help set them apart from the crowd.
