Intro

Pink Visual Pad is up for review, and this is the first site designed for the iPad that we've reviewed here so far. Thankfully I have my handy-dandy 32GB iPad with Wifi available for now, and I'll check the site out both on the iPad, and my computer a bit. It's basically a collection of their entire network's content in one place, and setup for use on a mobile or iPad browser. It looks like $25 a month gets you in this site, and possibly not into their network sites, which is an interesting choice I'd say.

The Pros

Large collection!

With about 3,000 videos or so, and a few photos to go along with each, there's a lot to see here. I assume this is basically their entire network collection all optimized for the iPad. More is coming regularly, so the numbers should continue to grow as well.

Worked pretty easily on the iPad.

The site worked well while browsing on my iPad, and I didn't run into any features that didn't work. Even the little javascript things, which had me worried, opened up just fine and let me filter things down.

Updates are coming.

The updates are definitely coming here. For a long time, they were updating weekly, but just started adding things daily a few days ago. I'm not sure what the "real" schedule is here, but that's a good problem to have I guess - how many updates are they really doing!

Other Good Stuff:

The quality is pretty good here. The standard-definition videos look very nice on an iPad, and decent on a computer. The HD videos look great both places, of course (make sure to change your video setting if you're interested in HD).

The Cons

More navigation options would help.

The navigation here was my one big disappointment. The only filter they have is by site, even though it looks like it's more than that. There's no over-arching search, which is really needed on a collection this size.

Minor Negatives:

The photo setup is very weird here. They have this coverflow-like setup, and the pictures are quite small in there, even on an iPad.
Of course, there were a few quirks I ran into. Once, when I came back a few hours after looking, it wouldn't let me view anything. It still had me as logged in, but I had to close that browser window to get back to working. Also, even on a pretty fast wifi connection, I got random buffering on the videos.

Bottom Line

A decent start here, though I think even more can be done.

As far as the videos and the size of the site goes, I think Pink Visual Pad offers a great collection and site here. There's a ton to see, a pretty wide variety of content, and more coming weekly (or more). The videos play well on your iPad, and can be viewed on your computer as well, of course. The quality is good, with several of the videos coming in HD, and even the SD looking decent. What I'd love to see upgraded a bit is the site itself. Navigation isn't the best with how much content they have, and I think they could add a really nice search to help things here. People don't have the ease of use that a computer provides, so you need as much on a single page as you can get to keep the user interested, and not having to switch back and forth between pages too much. Otherwise, they do pretty well here, and I think it's a decent collection for the iPad fan, and just mobile fans in general.
