Intro

Juliland is up for review today, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect with a name like that. I thought maybe a solo site, but that wasn't the case at all. It's actually the home of photographer/director Richard Avery, and it sounds like Juli Ashton helped him out early on, so maybe that's where the name came from. He started off in fashion photography (usually with an erotic twist), and it shows. The content is crazy unique here, with high-contrast images and videos coupled with unique makeup and beautiful models. Check out the tour for what I mean, as seeing is better than reading. I like what they offer, and there's quite a bit of it available. $25 a month gets you inside, which I think is pretty reasonable overall.

The Pros

Very unique, erotic content.

The content here is the reason to join Juliland, by far. I already got into what they offer in the intro a bit, but check it out for yourself. It's an awesome mix of fashion photography meets nude women, lesbians, and more. The content is contrasty, punchy, edgy, and more. It definitely has a nice niche carved out for itself and stands out from the crowd.

Lots of stuff to see.

At 650 photo galleries and 345 videos (or so) currently, the site was a lot larger than I expected initially. Sometimes these sites by individual photographers can remain rather small, but that's not the case here at all. Plus, they're still growing, so expect those numbers to grow of course.

Photos look great.

Although I think they could handle being a touch larger, there's no doubt that the photos look very nice here. They come in at 1500x1150, and pretty much every single picture I saw was that exact size (depending on orientation of course). They are sharp, clear, full of color, and look fantastic.

Other Good Stuff:

Of course, all the content here is shot by one person, and therefore is all exclusive to the site.
The content updates come weekly here, with a new photoset and a new video each week.

The Cons

Video quality could be better.

The videos were a little smaller than I expected in terms of dimensions. The 600x300 average size is just not large enough to really make the videos pop like they could. I'd love to see a full jump to HD videos if possible, as the style could definitely handle it. However, at least max out the SD realm if the former isn't a possibility.

Minor Negatives:

It's bad enough that all the video downloads come in zip files. From there, once opened, you have to go about four folders/levels deep before you actually get to the video. Why not just have the video file be the first thing you see when opened?
I was a little surprised that the models didn't have a bio or anything here. The models page is good to get their content all in one place, but some personality info would be that much better.
The Flash streaming seems to offer the ability to jump ahead only as far as your browser has downloaded. However, this never worked for me. It looked like it was trying, but the video remained moving forward from the beginning as though nothing had happened.
The video intros are close to being normal, but run a bit long for me. They're just over 20 seconds of text and whatnot before the video actually starts.
It's not a huge issue here since they mostly categorize things by models, but I'd love a search feature or some categories here to browse through. The site is pretty large and could use more tools.

Bottom Line

With a few small changes, Juliland could be a ton of fun here.

Juliland excels in offering some very unique content that's a lot of fun. The style isn't seen much in the porn world, and it's a breath of fresh air. The girls are hot, the sets and setups look fantastic, and there's a nice edge to everything that keeps it interesting. Most of my complaints were minor, but I'd mostly love to see some higher-quality videos (HD? Please?). Otherwise, they already offer a ton of content, and they update weekly. The site is a bit simple, but it fits the niche pretty well overall. The options are pretty good for downloads, but could be beefed up for navigation. Overall, I was very impressed, mostly by the content itself, and the size of the site. Check out the tour, and definitely join up if you like the style here.
