Where do you even start with a site like Wasteland? I guess their tagline is as good as any. It reads, "The oldest and largest BDSM/fetish site on the net." I think that sums it up well. It's been around forever (enough for us to have reviewed it several times already, and it pre-dates us by many, many years), and is all about bondage and other related fetishes. They've been around since 1995 and offer over 750,000 photos currently. $35 is normally a tad high for a monthly membership, but I think with all that they offer here that you can't complain too much.
The goods:
- Tons of fun niche content. If you don't mind photos, this site is huge. Videos are under 200 in number, so it's not really a video site at this point if you ask me (though even 180+ videos is more than a lot of sites out there have). With all the updates, it will only continue to grow, especially in terms of videos. There's just a lot to see here for sure. Add in the nice niche content they feature, and you'll being to understand why it's such a unique site.
- Large weekly updates. Each week, they add four or so videos/video parts (some exclusive, some not), around eight photo galleries, a couple articles (or parts of articles), a story (or part of a story), and other random updates.
- Some content is exclusive. If you hit the Wasteland exclusive sections, you'll find probably some of the better material in here. Granted they couldn't get their numbers as high as they are without some non-exclusive content, but it's nice to have at least some of the exclusive material separated out.
The bads:
- Quality isn't the best. The one exception to this is the newest exclusive Wasteland videos, which come in 720p HD video; those look great. However, the majority of the content isn't anywhere near that in quality, and it's even worse as you go back to the older stuff obviously.
- Design and navigation are quite plain. With so much content, I'm sure it's pretty difficult to keep it all organized. They're actually doing much better than I remember in years past, but it's still not nearly as good as most other sites you see these days. The look is plain, the navigation is fine, but nothing great. I'd love some more interactive browse options to find specific types of content, but there's only so much they can do I guess.
- Some content isn't exclusive. Okay, maybe a lot of it isn't exclusive. With the huge numbers though, you have to expect that somewhat. They do offer some exclusive Wasteland sections, and the rest of the content is really unknown for me. It's nice to have a mix of both, but just make sure not to expect that all 3/4 of a million photos are exclusive, because they aren't.
Conclusion:
Come to Wasteland for the size, the updates, the content, and everything related to it. The site itself isn't the best, but it doesn't change a ton about what they offer. With all the content, a ton of community features that weren't even mentioned, and all their collective knowledge from the past decade plus, I don't think you can go too wrong at least checking out what they offer here. It should be on everyone's list who remotely likes BDSM, as it's one of the biggest and most experienced online at this point.
