Tokyo Whores is up for review today, and I must say that I like the choice of names here as it gets right to the point. They recently completed a redesign of the member's area, bringing in the look and feel of the tour to make things better in terms of continuity. Their main focus is Japanese bondage of course, with a large photo section, and a decent video section available. From there, they also offer quite a few bonus sections ranging from fetish shoots, to generic Asian hardcore, to a few different sections from other countries. Membership will cost you $25 for the first month, and then just $20 a month after that.
The Pros
Pretty unique content.
Whatever the rest of the site may fall short on, the content is quite unique here. The combination of a Japanese niche and the BDSM scene is highly erotic at times, and should hold the interest of at least a few people. The bonus content is okay as well, but if I were them, I'd focus on the main bread and butter of the site more.
Not too small of a site.
I wouldn't call it a large site either, but it's not too small, especially when you add in all the extra sections beyond the main content. I'd love to see more videos overall, but there are lots of photo galleries to check out in the meantime.
Other Good Stuff:
The redesign helped the member's area look quite a bit better than the previous design.
The newest pictures are looking nicer than ever, and come in quite large overall.
The Cons
Needs more viewing options.
The photos here only come in one size, and don't offer a zip file download for some reason. Videos, however, only come in zip files, which is a huge pain. Plus, they only offer shorter WMV clips, and have no other video types, and no full-scene options. They do offer a Flash streaming option as well, but I'd love to see 1-2 more video types (DivX and Quicktime?), plus the option of clips and a full-scene download.
Navigation is still cluttered and spread out.
While the site looks better, it's still pretty confusing when you first login. There are too many sections here. I think they should focus on their Japanese bondage scenes most, and make that the only thing you see when you login. Get rid of all the sub-sections for years and stuff, and have just a photo section, and a video section. From there, they can add a bonus content section which houses all the other stuff they offer. It's just too many sections at once (and way too many sub-sections), and it's overwhelming.
Updates could be quicker.
While they offer a small weekly preview gallery of what's coming next month, they're not really updates. From what I can tell, they add a new photo set and video once per month, which is just too slow. They need these added at least weekly to keep up with the crowd.
Quality could be better overall.
The newer pictures can look okay, but even those can vary from time to time. As you get into the older content, things get worse. All the videos need better quality overall, and many of the photos get to be looking older as you go through the archives.
**UPDATE** The owner has re-done some of the encoding on the pictures and videos, and they may look better now. That's great news!
Minor Negatives:
Most content isn't dated. All the bonus sections have no dates, and even the current stuff only gives you the month and year.
I'm not sure why, but many pictures end up grainy for me when viewed at full size. They may be over-compressed. The owner did go through after our review and update these, so they may look better than before now.
With the content so spread out, I'd love to see a search feature here to help you find specific types of content. Want a lesbian set with toys and ropes? No problem.
For some reason, as mentioned above, all the videos come in zip files, which is a huge added pain for no real benefit. **UPDATE** The zip files have been removed after our review, so this shouldn't be a concern anymore.
Bottom Line
A little better overall, but still needing some improvement.
I like the redesign as far as looks go, but the site is still quite cluttered for me. You can't tell what's exclusive, and what's not. Most content doesn't have dates on it, and those that do just show the month, mostly because I think the photos and videos are only updated once per month. If it were me, I'd make the main Japanese bondage section the main focus, and only offer that on the main pages. Show all the content together from this section, instead of splitting it up by year. Then, have a whole separate bonus area that houses the rest, and that should clean up a lot of the clutter. From there, get the quality consistent, and keep it as high as possible. The photos look good enough usually, but the videos could be better. Get rid of the zip files for videos, and add a LOT more options here. Put in zip files for the photos, add more video types for the videos, plus full-scene options (in one download), and a streaming video option. From there, update at least once a week, if not more. We need more content, more options, more updates, and less clutter in my book. Otherwise, the content they have can be decent, and if you can skip over the shortcomings, could be worth a good look here. She is still tweaking the site, as most everyone is out there, so hopefully small changes will continue to come.
