Today we're looking at a site called Titan Men, which is a gay DVD site basically that offers up their content in their member's area, but also is selling the DVD's outright. It was a little confusing at first, as they call their videos "on demand" which made me think it was a PPV-type site, but you join with a monthly fee and get access to their collection (albeit streaming videos only). The basic membership is $22 a month, and you can get that lower if you want to join for longer periods up front.
The goods:
- Lots of content up. Our count puts them around 115 DVD's currently, which may not be a lot for a DVD site, but is quite a bit for most any other paysite since each video contains multiple scenes.
- Videos look decent. They say they're only coming in at 900kbps (I couldn't get any info off the video in Windows Media Player to verify), so they look a little better than expected if that's the case.
The bads:
- Less scene info than I expected. For a DVD site, that they own the studio of no less, I was expecting some info on the movies that just wasn't here. At a minimum, I'd like a list of models, and a description. Other options would be categories, video length, etc.
- Not sure when they update. They just don't date anything here that I can see, so I have no idea how often they add new material. Hopefully it's pretty regular, but you really don't know unless you keep an eye on things.
- Streaming or DRM videos only. This is their way of making you buy the DVD (for more money of course) if you want full rights to it. Otherwise you're stuck paying the fee if you want access to the videos.
- Navigation was confusing. There just never was a real central location to find all the content together, or at least the latest stuff. You had to always choose either a studio, category, title, etc. before you could see any videos. Why not have a master list somewhere as well?
Conclusion:
It's not a bad site, but it wasn't quite working for me either. The videos were good enough of course, but then you had to deal with the lackluster download options and everything. The site was more confusing than necessary, and the lack of update info has me wondering as well. The content is the best part, so they have some hope to fix a few of the little issues in the future. For now it's okay, but just not really great for me.
