I wasn't quite sure what the hell to expect at a site called Tawaif. It turns out the definition is a Muslim courtesan (aka hooker I think), usually coming from the Mughal era. I don't know much about the Muslim noble classes or the Mughal era, but I know what a hooker is! This basically looks to be a collection of Indian and Pakistani collection of porn films. If I'd have just said that from the get go, I could have saved a lot of typing.
To join costs just $15 a month which isn't too bad (though it looks like that's up from the last time we took a look at the site when it was only $10 a month). The tour actually isn't too impressive design-wise, though they give some previews of the videos they have inside. Once logged in (I got bounced back to the tour on the first try, but another click let me right in), you'll see the member's area looks pretty different. It's still not great, but better than the tour. The break things down by set, and further by month. It seems the last few months they've only put up three videos each month, and updates only come on the first of the month.
Once you pick a video, you basically get a small description (which is actually identical text on most of their vids), one preview image (of the cover usually), and links to the video files to download and view. They only come in one option (despite the confusion of listing two logos there), and none of them are Windows Media Video or Real Video as the logos imply. I only saw DivX and MPG videos on their site, and they're always broken down into many clips in only one quality option. Downloads came in about half-speed for our connection, which made them take a little longer than usual.
The first video I watched didn't have that great of quality. It came in at 352x288 and 1250kbps, but looked like a bad VCR to VCR transfer or something. On top of that, this girl danced around but never got naked or anything. You can see this stuff on the Indian channel from your cable company! The second video looked better (it was an MPG), though no nudity here either. I finally found one with some boobs, but that seems to be about as hardcore as it gets.
Overall, I'm not impressed. The price is decent, but that's about where the fun ends. The site doesn't look that great, they don't give much info on the movies, they don't update as often as I'd like to see, the quality varies from good to bad, and there's just not a lot going on in the videos a lot of the time. Added all together, that's just not going to cut it for what I look for in a site today. If you'd like to see some authentic Indian/Pakistani belly-dancing (or whatever it's technically called), it'll work, but I'd like to see a lot of upgrades for a recommendation on my end.
