Secret Virgin looks like another site (or two?) that we've reviewed before, though I can't put my finger on which one. It's very colorful and has a familiar look to it, especially since it's a bit distinctive. Anyhow, I recognize some of the models here as non-exclusive, so that's not the best start to a review. However the stats they post on their front page are pretty good with over 700 photo galleries, 400 movies, and updates coming daily. You have to have pretty good stats if the content isn't exclusive, so it's good to see them above the norm there.
The goods:
- Updates come daily. Every other day a new photoset is added, and the other days a new video is added. With non-exclusive content, this nice update schedule is huge in keeping people around and interested in the site - it's great to see.
- Some high-definition video up. They really step the quality up a huge notch compared to the normal videos, so I hope they continue this trend and add even more of them overall in the future.
- Browsing options are decent. Each page you're on usually has an option or two you can play with to change how things are displayed. This may mean ordering the models by name, rating, or by photos vs. videos, or just the general category features that they split their content into.
The bads:
- Doesn't appear to be exclusive. At least a couple of the models I recognized, so unless they purchased exclusive content from them (which is possible I guess), I'm thinking at least some of the content isn't exclusive here. The sets also vary from one to the next, which makes me wonder as well.
- Only WMV videos offered. The same lack of options can be seen in the photo section as well unfortunately. Since there are so many ways to browse the site, I was surprised there weren't more viewing options for the content available.
- Older quality varies. Heck, even some of the newer (non-high-def) videos have a few quality issues once in a while. It's not necessarily hit or miss, as most of the stuff looks good enough, but once in a while you'll find a set that just doesn't impress as much.
Conclusion:
For what they're offering here at Secret Virgin, they do a pretty good job. The daily updates help, as does the higher quality in general. The content is the only question in my mind, and the only thing that really hurts them a little bit. Otherwise, the basics are here, and they should continue to do even better in the future as their collection grows even larger.
