I thought Party Chicks was going to be some generic hardcore reality site, with supposedly wild and drunk chicks scoring on camera. However, it's actually more of a outdoors drunk girl type site, with parties at the beach, nightclub, and more getting a little out of hand with the drinking and flashing. Their tour is pretty low-key, not really offering much info or samples on what you'll be seeing inside unfortunately. To get inside, you'll pay a pretty high price at $30 for the first month, but thankfully that drops down after that to $20 every month thereafter.
The goods:
- Content seems to be exclusive. The last thing we need is another site with the same, played-out party content from Spring Breaks of years past, so it's nice to see that it looks like they actually shoot all this stuff themselves.
- Quality is decent. Pictures are usually taken outdoors which makes for good lighting and quality there. Videos come in DivX format at 640x480 and 1500kbps which is pretty nice as well. There's a lot of action going on usually, which can mean a few artifacts here and there, but it was better than expected for sure.
The bads:
- Design and navigation need work. The member's area looks much like the tour, which wasn't that impressive I mentioned. They give you one huge list of content, split into the different sections they offer. You really have to pay attention as you could click on something that's different than what you thought it was pretty easily. Maybe a new design, a separate videos and pictures section, etc. would help them a bit (especially as the site grows).
- Updates can be slow-coming. They aim for weekly it looks like, but over the last five updates, they've missed that goal twice. When you're paying as much as you are for the first month, you really need consistent updates if nothing else.
- Not a ton to see, especially for the price. It's not a tiny site, but it's not really even a medium-sized site either. They need some time to grow to make the initial $30 investment more worth your while.
- Downloads came a little slow for me. We have a one megabit connection, which means downloads usually come around 1.0-1.1 MB/sec. in IE, and these were closer to 350 KB/sec. for me. It wasn't awful or a huge deal, but it was noticeable.
Conclusion:
Overall, it's just a very so-so site for me. The content is fine, but there isn't enough of it. Getting around the site was pretty painful, and it didn't look any better either. Updates are a little slow coming sometimes, and they charge a little too much for the first month in my opinion. This could be better when it's had some time to mature and grow, but for now I wouldn't put Party Chicks on my short list.
