MUSE is up for review today, and it's an artistic photography site that showcases the work of Richard Murrian. It's a bit different from the other similar photography sites you'll come across in that they don't focus on numbers, or quantity here much at all. Instead, they focus on the content, the girls, and the images. Each set is only 15-20 photos max, and they go through each photo individually to edit it to perfection. The end product is nothing short of awesome, with beautiful images, and beautiful art. Videos are not a main priority here either, though some can be found from a few years back. $25 gets you in for the first month, which drops to $19 a month if you stick around after that.
The Pros
Very unique photos that look awesome.
As mentioned earlier, the photos are very unique here, and look fantastic. As much as artistic photography sites are different from general porn sites, MUSE is even unique in the artistic photography world. The images take on a life of their own, and set themselves apart from the crowd. Every detail seems to be considered from the girl, to the location, to the lighting, to the clothing, to the editing. They create interesting photos that speak more than just the generic nudes you see on most porn sites out there.
Content options are good.
Photos come in three different sizes of course, as well as a zip file (though there's only one zip file available for the largest photos). Videos come in three options as well including Quicktime, DivX, and an M4V for your iPod.
Other Good Stuff:
The extras here are interesting, with my favorite being the tutorials for photography and photoshop They also offer a blog that's updated when they add new content, some e-cards, items for sale, etc.
The Cons
Video quality could be better.
Granted, these videos were shot back in 2006-2007, so the quality issues are to be expected I guess. However, when the photographs look so nice, it's a little surprising when their videos don't hold up that tradition. They look a bit small and grainy at times, and definitely should be up in the HD range if it was new content shot today.
Videos haven't been updated in 2 years.
As I just mentioned, all the videos here are from 2-3 years ago for some reason, and I don't think they're adding new videos anytime soon. I think they need to re-launch this section with current content, and keep it updated regularly. Even though it's a photography site first, people love seeing even behind-the-scenes videos to get that much of a better look at the models.
Photo updates are random, can be slow.
There's no real rhyme or reason to the update schedule that I can figure out. There have been no updates in 1.5 months currently, but there were two additions in December, and a few in November. I hope this is a temporary break for the holidays almost a month ago instead of a slowing down here.
Galleries are pretty small usually.
It's part of their mantra, so it's to be expected I guess, but it still deserves mentioning. The pick the best of the best in terms of the photos from their shoots, and then they painstakingly edit them to even more perfection. Because of that, most galleries have about 15 photos total, which is much smaller than we're used to seeing.
Minor Negatives:
The site does not remember your selection for photo sizes, and always defaults to the medium size. I chose the large photos, but had to do it each time I opened a new gallery.
Funny enough, there's no models index here to choose a girl from, and they have no info or bio on the models either unfortunately. I think it would add some good personality if we knew a bit more about them.
For some reason, they don't offer any streaming or Flash videos, which may annoy some.
Bottom Line
The site and updates are just so-so here, but the photography is some of the best out there.
I guess you can't fault these poor photographers for not being able to keep up with the techno-porn companies out there today. MUSE is no different, as everything from the site, to the options (mostly navigation), to the update schedule are worse than you'd see on a normal porn site. However, where they excel here is in the content and the photography. The images are incredibly unique, sexy, and interesting. They're well-composed, well-lit, well-edited, and well-selected. The girls look fantastic, and if you check out some of the tutorials on how they fix them up, much of that comes from the word involved after the photo is taken. Richard does pick girls with an innate beauty at least, and then compliments it perfectly with his unique style. Come here to enjoy what he has to offer as art, and you should be easily able to look past the other areas of the site which may be lacking.
