With the growing popularity of "alt-girls" sites, where average (and not-so-average) girls submit photos of themselves for the whole internet to see, it's no wonder we've been reviewing more of them lately. Today's offering, Manic Jane, looks pretty similar off the bat as the rest of them. One main component that entices people to these sites is the low price point, and Manic Jane's $8 a month doesn't disappoint. The site's dark design, and collection of alternative/goth pictures falls right into place, too.
Logging in, the site is pretty simple without much to clutter it up. The gray text on black background on their menu is tough to read on my end, which was slightly annoying. Also, with a link titled "MJBB" I had no idea what I was clicking (it ends up it's a bulletin board). You start off on the "Janes" page, which is the gateway to their content. There are no dates or schedule here, so I wasn't sure on my first visit where the newest stuff was.
There are currently 34 girls online, with new ones in their coming soon section. Once you find a girl you like, you're taken to her page where you can read a bio, and find the links to her galleries. There's lots of info to read up on, although it only takes up a small portion of the page width-wise, but makes you scroll through a couple pages to get the info out. Again, about the only annoying thing here is the hard-to-read text.
The pictures come from the girls themselves, so we get a little variety in quality. The actual gallery setup isn't my favorite, but it'll do. They have the thumbnails in a small frame along the left side of the page, while the pictures open up in the right frame. Thankfully, they open up each gallery in a new window (which I usually hate), so you can just close it and get back to where you were quickly. The picture quality is actually pretty decent, generally. The only problem is that the pictures are usually on the small side; about the best I found was 640x480.
There are no videos on the site at all. There is a message board as I noted before, as well as a chat room that was empty when I checked in on it. The site is absurdly simple, but what more do you expect for your $8 a month? They provide exactly what I expected. This site definitely isn't for everyone, but if you're looking for yet another site with photos like this, it's worth a look. Beware that there are larger sites out there, and with no posted update schedule I'm not sure how often they update. Still, it's a cute little site that has some potential in the future.
