While the name High Def Movie Pass might make you think that we're looking at a network today, we're not. This is a normal paysite featuring hardcore scenes shot in high definition video of course. The content looks pretty normal, the site looks pretty normal, and the only thing really setting them apart is the HD video. The price is a bit crazy at $40 a month, and when we joined, we found some pretty serious cross sells around, so make sure you know what you're joining up exactly.
The goods:
- Some HD content available. There are 24 scenes up that are in high definition at this point, and of course they look pretty decent. With newer technology always becoming available, there are already sites out there with better HD, but this definitely fits the bill too.
- All original content. They may share the scenes between their other sites, but the content is all original at least from what we know. Hopefully it's all new to you and never before seen.
The bads:
- No update dates. They don't give you any dates, or any hint of an update schedule. However, our content count from over a month ago showed 72 videos, and they currently have a couple more than that, so hopefully they come regularly. However, I have no idea if the updates are in HD or not.
- Less than half the content in HD. With 27 of 95 or so scenes online right now, it's almost down to the 1/4 range of actual content in HD. With the theme being high definition content here, and the price being so high, that's pretty disappointing.
- Expensive. At $40 a month, it's definitely in the top tier of expensive sites out there. Add in the fact that the site is just so-so for me, and it's not a great combination.
Conclusion:
Overall, I was probably a little underwhelmed here with High Def Movie Pass. Sure there's some HD content up, but it's only like 28.5% of their total collection at this point. The other content is pretty generic, so it doesn't add a ton of fun for me. Updates are a big question mark, and the price is pretty high. There are just a few too many things going against the site to give a full recommendation right now.
