Hard Friction

Intro

Hard Friction is up for review today, and this is a solo and hardcore gay site brought to you by Steve Cruz and Bruno Bond. It's part of a small group of similar gay sites. I can't discern a huge niche or anything here, but the guys are all pretty good-looking and muscular overall, so maybe that's there thing. There's a wide range from solo to group sex here, so there should be something for everyone. $30 a month gets you access to this site, plus their bonus sites they offer.

The Pros

Lots of HD videos.

Not all of the videos are offered in high definition, but I'd say most of them are. The hit pretty minimum HD requirements, but they look okay overall at least. The more they can add, and the better they look, the better for the site overall obviously.

Fun scenes.

They don't get too crazy in terms of a niche or anything, but they offer just good all-around gay sex here for the most part. They offer everything from solo, to hardcore, to group sex scenes, all featuring men that are generally in-shape.

Network access included.

There are a few extra sites included with your membership, all with similar hardcore gay content to help boost your membership value. It's pretty easy to get in and out of the other sites, as well.

Other Good Stuff:

Though they do saddle all video downloads with DRM, at least the terms aren't bad. It looks like once you download your license, you can keep and play the file for five years, which is better than DRM used to be for most back in the day.
The updates are coming pretty regularly here, with new scenes added weekly for the most part. They definitely need to keep that up.
For streaming, they offer quite a few options. There are both WMV and flash streaming videos in several quality levels.

The Cons

Needs some growth.

With right around 50 scenes total, they need more content here. Updates are coming, but not quick enough to really make a huge difference even in a year. You can probably use up your whole month checking this content out, but I don't know how long I could stick around after that.

Video downloads have DRM on them.

This was a pretty big bummer to see. All downloads come in WMV format, and all of them have DRM attached to them. The terms are decent enough, but it's a huge pain in the ass at times. I'm pretty computer literate, and have another computer that won't play DRM files no matter what I do. People who aren't used to it could get frustrated very quickly.

Minor Negatives:

The quality of the HD videos is pretty low overall. There's lots of compression seen in the videos, and they could use a quality boost.
While they have videos and vidcaps, there are no photo galleries here at all, which may disappoint some.

Bottom Line

Just an okay little site, with several things holding them back unfortunately.

Hard Friction starts off okay with fun scenes, and HD content available. The network access helps as well to give you a little more for your money. However, the small collection, DRM protection, and lackluster HD quality definitely hold them back in the long run. I'd look to see another boost in quality, more content and updates, and the complete removal of DRM from all their videos. Once that gets going, things will be a lot better here. As it stands, I'd say it's an okay join as part of the network, but a pretty tough sell on its own.
