Right away GodsGirls.com gives the impression of a sexy Goth site with some of your loveliest alternative beauties. They promise updates four times daily, which seems almost unreasonable for the site. Suffice to say I'm a bit weary. Especially considering there's still a headline from May 31st regarding password errors. This aside, even the tour makes me want to jump inside to catch a glimpse of these hardcore babes. I think one of the coolest things about GodGirls.com is that this is an actual community of people in addition to the beautiful images and videos, with a monthly membership only costing $14 bucks.
The Good:
- This site screams personality. From the community members' pages to the news blogs, forums, chat, and even the 118,000+ images and 40+ videos offer up a dose of something special. These girls are young and clearly into alternative lifestyles that reflect who they are in an artistic way through body art, hair color, and even in their choice of poses and shoot stylings. A membership here is cheap and the site encourages you to get involved by creating a profile, posting blogs and taking part in the community.
- Images are simply beautiful and offered in 3 size formats, with the largest running 800x1200 pixels. The videos are also quite fun and although the picture size is rather small, the streaming quality looks good.
- Zip files are offered for all 3 sizes and videos can be downloaded in QuickTime, Windows Media, or iPod formats. Streaming is using flash, but I would have enjoyed higher quality Windows Media options as well. There are also many options when it comes to browsing the content: by date, model, etc.
The Bad:
- Overall video quality could be better. For example, large format WMV downloads only stream as high as 300k. I know a site with 30 different size options for their images can do better than that!
- The actual content is not dated, and even though there is a lot to see and do overall, it's hard to determine just how often new galleries and videos are being added. Although I like the amount of user features and design here, I do feel as though things could be more dynamic which would aid in navigation.
The Conclusion:
Gods Girls is a fun & unique site that boasts a rather large and interesting community of people interested in the artistic world of alternative culture. The images were refreshing but the videos lacked the same consideration in quality, unfortunately. In general, though, the amount of user options was an added bonus to this active community and the low price tag of only $14 bucks per month makes for a real incentive to join in the fun.
