GameLink.com is probably best known for their online selling of porn DVDs. They're well established with their online store and have been at it for years. This GameLink VOD site is their version of online videos which are offered in pay-per-view format along with some other renting/downloading options.
The Goods:
- Enormous Collection of Movies. This is the main selling point of GameLink and VOD services in general. The sheer number of movies in the collection is huge. They come from a whole host of studios and cover just about any niche out there. The movies include everything from big name pornstars to amateur style porn.
- Professional Design, Helpful Features. The overall design is a real strength. Guests and signed-in members see the same navigation setup which is a sharp looking site. All the needed tools are in place with categories, pornstars, studios, most watched, best sellers, etc. Individual movie pages link thru to the performer and studio names and similar recommended titles are provided as well.
- Additional Articles, Extras, Etc. GameLink took the time to put create sections for these things on the site so I figure I'd point them out. They have articles, editorials, reviews, top lists, and some other similar features. This stuff adds something else to check out for those interested in more than just watching vids.
The Bads:
- Viewing Options Are Not Consistent. Jumping around the collection I noticed that many times the pay-per-minute options isn’t available. Also, the streaming and downloading options vary as well. The one thing a VOD site should have in place is a foundation of consistent viewing options. GameLink needs to work on that especially in getting the per-minute option on all movies on the site.
- No Preview Thumbs Besides Box Covers. The actual movie pages have the front and back box cover for movie previews. When loading the movie the stream plays and you're kind of going in blind. Without preview pics it's impossible to tell how many scenes there are or what kind of action is included. Basically members are left to stream blind.
- Update Section w/Out Specific Dates. This is the one design area that I was unimpressed with. They've taken the time to compile a "New Releases" section which has sorting and filter features but they don't list actual dates. Dates are not shown on the individual movie pages either.
Conclusion:
One specific area I didn't touch on was the video quality. Its fine and wasn't impressive enough to list as a "Good" nor was it a negative. The streaming and buffering worked well for me without difficulty. All-in-all GameLink is a solid source of movies for those who prefer the streaming per-minute pricing model. The one thing I think they need to work on is getting the per-minute option set-up on each and every title.
