When I see a site title like Erotic Movie Xchange, I get instantly excited. I love video over pictures, and I love broadband for providing this to us at such a good cost. I'm a little curious about this site specifically, since the name implies some kind of exchange of movies rather than a video paysite, but I think it's just a bad choice in the name.
The site looks nice on my first browse around the tour. The one thing I see I don't like is the price tag at a whopping $40 a month. You're already twice (or four times) as expensive as our top video sites currently, which puts EMX at a disadvantage from the get-go. Don't let them fool you with promises of free access, as soon as you download a video you will be charged the $40 fee. Plus I also noticed on their tour that they mention that you must be a member to view the videos, which means they use some sort of DRM to protect their content once your membership expires.
The main member's page is pretty easy to figure out. They list the top downloads, and also some suggested downloads (I'm not sure who suggests them). Along the right, you can pick a category to browse through. There's also a very simple search that will find keywords, actresses, and titles. If you find the link to the search page, you can get a more advanced one that's much better. The only problem there is it didn't seem to work for me. I tried searching for "pregnant" and "cumshot" (hey, I'm a sick bastard ok?) and the results that came back didn't have any pregnant chicks in them.
Once you've picked a category you like, you're presented with scenes from movies that fit in that category. This is probably a little better than just listing the videos, but it does mean you might have several listings from one movie. Each one has a thumb preview, a description, and a link to download page. There's more info than I expected on a page that just lists the galleries. My only problem with the page is the link to get through the results pages, since you can only go forward or back one page at a time. If you often visit a certain category, you may want to jump to the end of the results right away.
Once you click on a link to download the clip (doesn't matter which one, they both go to the same page), you'll be on the clip's page which lists the performers, length, keyword matches, and some samples from the clip. There are a few screen caps in the 600x400 range, and even some sample clips that last about 15 seconds to see if you want to get the entire clip.
Once you ready to download/watch the scene, hit the high- or low-quality link to get started. You'll need to enter your username and password the first time while they verify that you're still a member. The lower versions come in at 320x240 and 250kbps, while the higher-quality ones at 640x480 and 575kbps! The video quality was pretty good, although slightly worse than I was expecting. Some of the clips have a DivX logo in the corner, even though they are all WMV, which makes me wonder if they've been encoded more than once (which would lessen the quality a bit). They're still on par or better than most video you'll see out there, but not as good as some of the other video sites we've reviewed.
They really don't have a lot in the way of extras, about the only new thing they have coming is a download manager sometime in the future. I actually like the site itself a bit. They could use a small upgrade to the browsing features. But they lose the most points with their price, and the DRM restrictions that require you to be a member. There's a few other great sites out there that cost less, and let you keep the videos forever that make the value of EMX plummet. If it weren't for those two things, I'd have it towards the top of our video section. For now, it remains an okay choice if you're in need of something new.
