Isn't EMX that band that sang that song 'Unbeleivable' back in the 80's? Oh wait, that was EMF. Oh well, on to the site. EMX is a sharp looking movie site with a somewhat unusual pricing structure that I'll get to in a minute. But first what really surprised me was the large number of videos in the public nudity category. There are over 1,000 in that section alone and to put it into perspective, the site says it has 4,400+ total movies. Of all the categories it's just odd that 1/4 of their collection would be in that category. The next largest categories are Hardcore (904), Gay (414 videos), Amateur (212), Latina (211), and Mature (200). All others have somewhere under 200. Any way you look at it the site has lots of porn vids, it's just odd that of all categories public nudity would have the most.
Many adult sites come up with strange pricing structures and EMX has managed to create a new one. You can register for free by entering personal info and a credit card, and registered users are allowed to browse around the site for free. Nothing will be charged until you watch or download a movie. Doing so triggers the $39.95/mo membership fee. Not only is the cost high but licensing restrictions mean that only active members are permitted to watch the movies. Downloads prompt you for a username and password which means once your membership is cancelled and expires all the downloads you have will be worthless. It seems to me with the high monthly rate and licensing restrictions, EMX has almost priced itself out of the market since its competitor's prices tend to top off at around $30/mo without the download restrictions.
Looking past the price there are several positive features to be found. First it's a clean site with 26 categories of vids. This is material purchased from other studios which means it's not exclusive but considering how many scenes the site has it's a sure thing you'll find performers you recognize and others you don't. Most scenes look professionally produced and a small number appear more amateurish. As a rule these are the same type of movies you can find on DVD. In addition to the categories, navigation features include a simple keyword search and a more detailed advanced search. Advanced search has the ability to search by keyword, physical trait, description, actress, and more. Most of the time it seems to bring up relevant results. Each clip shows 15 preview pics, studio, performers, and keywords. It's possible to click on the studio, keyword, or performer to bring up other clips of that genre.
Each movie is only offered as one big WMV file (high and low quality), there are no sub-clips available. Streaming those big files leads to lengthy buffering periods. Downloading takes a bit of time too as the file sized range from 30MB up to 150MB. For those of you patient enough, the quality is worth the wait. The high quality vids are very sharp and even the low quality files are respectable.
Hardcore movie sites are typically some of my favorites. On the surface EMX looks like a solid site with a nice design and large database of movies. The things holding this site back are the high cost, few downloading options, and the restrictive licensing deal. No matter what kind of content a porn site has $40/mo is just a lot of money.
