DVD Rack is up for review today, and it's a DVD site that we've checked out recently if I recall correctly. Not much has changed in the last few months, but that's not necessarily a bad thing (or a good thing, ha). If you join through our site, you can get in for $10 a month (instead of $18 a month) which gets you access to over 4,500 DVD's worth of content here. The options are a little less filled out than other similar sites, but hopefully the nice price will entice you inside.
The Pros
Large site of course.
As with most DVD sites out there, there's a lot of content here. Those 4,600 DVDs on the site translate to almost 22,000 actual scenes, which is more than you can get from any standard exclusive paysite. The numbers here are a big part of the selling point for the site.
Three new DVDs daily.
They're towards the top of the pack in terms of the update schedule. While not top dog, they do offer three new DVDs every single day, which keeps their numbers growing nicely. That's more than several other DVD sites off the top of my head.
Other Good Stuff:
If you join through our site and get the $10 monthly price, that's a pretty good deal, even in the DVD world.
The streaming options surprised me with two different types, and three different quality levels each.
The Cons
Downloads come way slow.
My download program didn't work, so you're stuck with a single download channel the entire time. Then, I got speeds in the 250 KB/sec. range, which is about 1/10 of our usual speed on a quick site. With large files ranging from 500MB - 1GB, they took around 30-60 minutes to get here, which is unacceptable in my eyes.
Navigation needs work.
They have the basics here, with searches by category, pornstar, etc., but they could do more. First, I want to be able to combine these searches and find all the lesbian scenes featuring blondes or whatever. Second, it doesn't help me a ton to have a list of DVDs featuring double penetration when many of the scenes on those same DVDs don't have it. I'd much rather search by scene specifically, and not by DVD.
More video options needed.
They have three different WMV options to choose from, plus the streaming versions. There are no small clips, no second (or third, or fourth) video type options, and I think the more options the better on a site like this. I'd love to see another video type or three added to round things out.
Minor Negatives:
The site is clean here, but the look and feel is a little plain overall for me.
Bottom Line
It's a nice, basic option if you just need a lot of content.
The big things here at DVD Rack are simply the price, and the amount of content you get. Thankfully they update with three new DVDs daily as well, which keeps their numbers growing. Otherwise, it's a bit basic in terms of the other DVD sites we've seen. Quality is decent, options are a little below average, and I think they could do better. It's a solid join at the price of just $10 a month at least, but don't come here expecting the latest and greatest in terms of technology and options. They have a little ways to go to catch up overall.
