This site offers a huge selection of movies in various niches for your viewing enjoyment.
DVD Rack is a straightforward movie download site with hardcore tiles geared towards a general audience. The content is from dozens of different studios in all the main popular niches. The set-up of the guest tour is an open-book style where visitors can browse the content and experience the site exactly as members do with the obvious exception of not being able to view/download the movies. This layout works well since it gives surfers a chance to fully see what movies and stars are in the mix before signing up. Basically what you see is what you get and spending a few minutes checking out the guest side of things will tell you whether or not they have what you're looking for.
The foundation for any DVD or movie download site is the sheer amount of movies offered. DVD Rack draws its collection from dozens of different studios with a total archive of several thousand full length movies which equates to many thousands of individual scenes. It's a hardcore collection that hits on the important niches like teen, amateur, asian, milf, gonzo, anal, lesbian, interracial, etc. The site does quite well in terms of overall quantity and they have what's expected from this type of site.
DVD Rack went online not too many years back so the video options are steady on both the newer movies along with those from when the site first started. Full-scene WMV files are available for downloading with three quality levels. Watch it now streaming has Flash and WMV formats and then there is a streaming custom clip creator tool as well. While the options aren't all that varied the WMV full-movie downloads do make sense and should be satisfactory for most surfers.
Browsing/navigation options include a keyword search, model index, genre/niche index, and studio list. Individual movie pages have hyperlinked cast and studio info to help locate related content.
Movies are date-stamped with update information showing when they were added to the site.
These guys have set up a special discount price for TBP users which makes the cost lower than their standard rate.
The downloads are slow here which does impact the value of the collection since saving these scenes is the whole essence of the site. Speeds I was getting were around 200-250KB/sec. The movie files range greatly from about 200MB to 800MB on average with a few outside that range on either end. Similar DL speeds have been noted during past TBP review and by several users so the sluggishness seems be standard fare here and not an anomaly. Also, my DL manager software IDM didn't work for saving these files so three are obviously limitations or restrictions on that too.
While the navigation basics are in place with niche, star, and studio browsing there isn't much in the way of features beyond that. The keyword search provided sketchy results and the model index can't be filtered or skipped ahead by letter but only has numbered pages. With a collection of this size additional browse features would have been welcome.
DVD Rack does have a new releases section and they date-stamp the movies so checking in on updates is fairly easy. The last time updates were made appears to be in the early months of 2010 and since then (about half a year at the time of this review) things have remained stagnant. Our TBP content count managers have noted this lack of updates under the site content facts section too.
There is just the one format for downloading and they could use additional choices there.
The downloadable movie files do not have any file size information posted.
DVD Rack doesn't have any surprises but instead it's pretty straightforward in that what you see on the guest tour is what you'll get as a member. The main asset is the big collection of movies and the main drawback has to be the slow download speeds. The fall off in updates is something to keep an eye on as it'll be interesting to see if they ever get back on the ball or if things just remain as-is from here on out.
