DVD Boys is a downloadable movie site with all gay content. The layout is similar to other DVD sites that have become very popular over the past few years. Guests can browse the site exactly as member's see it so before signing up it's clear what membership includes.
The Goods:
- Sizable Collection of Gay DVDs. Taking a look at the niche categories shows me that the collection covers just about all the sub-niches that would be expected. Pretty much every kind of gay hardcore is included. They pull the movies from a couple dozen different studios which are listed clearly under the Browse by Studio function.
- Hi-Res Vids, Several Format Choices. Premium membership includes hi-res MPEG videos plus there are WMV, AT, and iPod formats available as well. The WMV and QT each have three quality levels to choose from.
- Content is Dated, Daily Updates. Each video is date-stamped and they add 1 new movie each day. That's a good pace for a site of this kind which will result in steady content growth.
- Nice Design w/ Search/Browse Tools. The look of the site is professional with all the expected browsing tools like genre, studio, series, and a search box.
The Bads:
- DVD Resolution Vids Cost Extra. The difference in quality is pretty substantial so to get the true value of the movies you gotta pay for the premium membership. Premium costs twice as much as the basic membership which is quite a big difference.
- Non-Exclusive Content. This is simply the nature of DVD sites like this. What you're paying for is access to a large collection instead of anything original. Like I mentioned in my opening you can see what they have before signing up so it's easy to find out if they have what titles you're looking for without laying out any cash.
Conclusion:
DVD Boys is a good source for gay DVDs with all the features I expect from such a site. So long as they keep the updates going there should be quite a lot more to see when we get back for a follow-up review. There are some sub-niches which could use some growth so lets hope they add stuff across the board to make things as well rounded as possible.
