People who have been fans of hardcore porn movie sites or DVDs over the past years are likely to be familiar with Red Light District. They've carved out a name in the business and have been quite popular with their gonzo style movies and young/hot pornstars. Club Red Light is the company's official online site.
The Goods:
- Hundreds of Red Light Movies. The compilation of content is exactly as you'd expect from the Red Light Studio with hundreds of full DVDs making up the totality of content (with accompanying pic galleries as supporting material). Their movie series include all sorts of hardcore niches like teen, group, cumshots, asian, interracial, latina, anal, and more.
- Model Index, Good Browse Features. The design utilized all the main navigation tools I expected to find. They allow for browsing by series, title, and there's a full A-to-Z model index with some filter tools. On individual movie pages there is also a list of the cast that are clickable for quick jumping to other movies featuring that person.
- Daily DVD Update. There is an update page which lists recent additions. One new DVD is added each day. Also, every movie on the site has the "added on" date posted so the site does a good job of providing update information.
The Bads:
- New Vids Are In-Browser Flash Only. Club Red Light has gone to Flash for their main video format which is unusual. The quality is good and they stream very quickly but obviously this cuts out the possibility of downloading. The new movies seem to have just this Flash format offered.
- Download Limit of 3 WMV Files Per Day. Many of the older movies are in downloadable WMV format in addition to the Flash which means there are some files that can be saved to your computer. This, however, is limited by a restriction of 3 downloads per day. Usually download limits are in GB so this 3 file thing is awfully restrictive.
- Red Light Content is Fairly Ubiquitous. The popularity of Red Light's stuff kind of comes back to bite them in the ass when it comes to them having an official site like this. So many of these titles are available on other movie sites and tons of surfers have already experienced what these guys have to offer.
Conclusion:
As the official site of Red Light District studio Club Red Light really didn't meet my expectations due to the video formatting choices they've made. There's no doubt in my mind that the #1 thing fans of this studio would want from an official site is high quality downloadable files of their DVDs. They obviously have the content library to draw on and the site design is well done so I'm not sure why they have hurt themselves by opting against downloads.
