Bear Films is up for review today, and this site features videos (and some solo photo galleries) that show off some bears in gay action. I'm not 100% sure on the definition of a bear, but I take it to mean usually larger, hairy men, which seems to fit the bill here. The guys are also older, as you won't generally find too many 18 year olds around this site. The photo galleries are all solo posing in nature, while the videos are all hardcore in nature. $20 a month gets you in the door, which isn't too bad.
The Pros
Decent-sized site.
They definitely focus on videos here, and the video count is over the 260 mark currently. They do have photo galleries as well, but the only actual photos come in the modeling section (aka solo material). Those counts are nearing 500 in terms of photo galleries. The rest are vidcaps, and I wouldn't really count those in their totals
Other Good Stuff:
It's a little tough to tell for sure, but I'd guess everything here is exclusive. Plus, they're in a pretty specific gay niche with the bears here, so it's rather unique.
Updates do come here. They're not quite as often as I'd like, but at least the site is active and growing still.
The Cons
Videos aren't downloadable.
Everything here is played in your browser only. Plus, as you can see below, they're not even true streaming videos. The lack of downloads is a huge negative here unfortunately, and it'll probably drive several people away from the site from the get go.
Most photo galleries are vidcaps.
The only actual photos here are in the modeling section, which is all solo material. Granted, there's a lot to see there, but the other two gallery sections are all just vidcaps taken from videos, which don't have the same draw.
Quality isn't great.
Everything here looks a little below average in my opinion. The pictures are impossibly small, with all of them I found coming in at 600x400. They don't look bad, they're just tiny. The videos, on the other hand, do look bad at times. The quality level is on par with videos we'd see years ago, and they just don't compete with the HD material out there these days.
Navigation could be better.
The site looks a few years old as well, both in design, and in terms of navigation. They divide things up into a few sections, which kinda helps, but it's just not well done. They could use a more basic photo and video area, and then offer up some kind of search or tag/category feature to help narrow things down a lot more than they currently do.
Minor Negatives:
Though they have an in-browser video available here, it's not an actual streaming video. You can only jump ahead so far as you've actually downloaded, instead of being able to jump around right away. In addition, the option labeled with the actual Adobe Flash logo did not allow me to jump ahead ever, even after the download bar was full.
They have dates on the couple most recent additions, and then they disappear. It's tough to get a good sense of how consistent they are with updates.
Bottom Line
Some decent content here, but there are a few site choices that really hold them back.
Bear Films offers up some nice videos overall. They all fit in quite well with the theme, and there's a decent amount to see. Updates do come, though they can be a little slow at times. The things that really hold them back are the lack of video downloads, the lagging quality, and the poor navigation and design. Any one of them on their own is definitely a bummer, but the three together add up to a pretty big deal that just makes the site a lot less fun than it could be. If they could redesign everything and rethink their options, they have a nice base of content that could be better utilized.
