Barely Evil is the online presence of spooky fetish photographers Forrest Black and Amelia G, founders of the counterculture erotica magazine Blue Blood. Most of my reviews take me to mainstream sites, but when I come across a site like this whose webmasters have received accolades from the likes of even mainstream press like Playboy, Penthouse, AVN, and MTV, I wonder how I missed it! Forrest and Amelia are well respected within the gothic punk subculture and it's a treat to see a quality site that breaks some rules.
First off, don't let the "barely" in the title fool you. Some of these sets are definitely full-on "evil." They've got girls painted red with horns like devils, it doesn't get much more evil than that! Or for those who like their erotica with a touch of blasphemy, check out the nun using a cross in decidedly unholy ways. There is one set of a babe pointing a shotgun at the cameraman, as well as speculums, corsets, bondage, hot wax, and other fetish must-haves. The ladies vary in appearance but all share an unconventional beauty. While pale skin seems to rule the day, hair colors here come in every shade of the rainbow. Most of the women have some sort of piercing and/or tattoo and many like to experiment with unique makeup choices. Some of the women have a goth/vampire thing going on, some are cute pixie types, some are butch and look like they'll kick your ass, and some look like the glamour pinup type. The sets are hardcore but not in an XXX fucking kind of way. In fact, most of the penetration is by dildos and vibrators here, although there a few guy-girl and girl-girl sets. Hardcore takes on a new meaning on this site.
Barely Evil currently has 314 galleries online for a total of approximately 13,000 pictures. None of the galleries have dates assigned to them but I think they update around once a week with a new set. They seem to be primarily exclusive galleries with a few non-exclusive sets thrown in here and there. Forrest and Amelia are very talented behind the camera and really take the time to create professional, good quality images. The scenes are usually carefully constructed with interesting lighting and locations. They really look good. The newest sets are around 600x800 in size which is pretty standard. I wouldn't mind seeing them offered at an additional larger size, and zip files would be great, but the existing collection is still quite strong.
The video section is very small, with only six videos available. They're WMVs with two of the videos also offered in Quicktime. These don't look quite as good quality as the photos, but they're still well above what is offered on many fetish sites. The clips are on the short side, with one to three minutes being the norm. Though the vids are nice, this site really should be considered a picture site because the collection of movies is so small.
There are a few little site extras, the most of notable being the model interviews. Currently thirteen model profiles are online, each answering user submitted questions ranging from the expected ("What is your favorite sexual position?") to the unusual ("What sorts of odd objects would make you hot?"). The answers are far from what one typically sees in online porn model bios. Some of the women list hair pulling, rape fantasies, asphyxiation, and even rolling around in custard donuts as turn-ons. Now, I prefer to eat my donuts but at least these ladies are honest. Anyhow, the other bonuses include an inactive forum, some games, and a collection of fetish/hardcore stories. I'd really like to see some activity on the forum and definitely think they should continue with the model profiles.
I may not know a lot about goth fetish porn but I do know what makes a quality site and I would say Barely Evil has many of the necessary ingredients. The picture quality is very nice, the collection is good sized considering much of it is exclusive, the scenes are thoughtfully laid out and they really explore some hardcore themes, and the price is reasonable at $20 a month. The two areas that I think need improvement are the small video section and the navigation, which I found overly simple. On the whole, however, Forrest and Amelia have a good thing going. Barely Evil is definitely worth a look for goth fetish fans.

It's been around nine months since we last visted Barely Evil and they still look as evil as ever. Actually, not much has changed. The photo collection has grown from 13,000 images to around 14,100, though the video collection is still stalled at 6. Looks like they're still averaging one new gallery each week. Since the site is basically unchanged, so are my thoughts on it. This is nice looking content of some very freaky babes. With a still reasonable price of $20 a month, Barely Evil deserves a look from all those who like their girls wicked.
Score increased from 75.5 to 76.6.
