As a reviewer we get to experience a mix of sites and Backstage 24 is a concept that does stand out from the crowd. The theme here is totally focused on behind-the-scenes movies that show porn shoots getting made. Often times standard paysites will offer up a handful of small sampling of shoot bloopers or behind-the-scenes videos but Backstage 24 makes that idea their entire focus. The guest tour has a few in-browser trailers for guests to check out. It's important to note that the background music on those trailers isn't present on the actual member's area episodes. The member's movies have actual sound of the events going on in the shoot.
The Goods:
- Unique Behind-the-Scenes Style Vids. Most definitely the style of Backstage 24’s content is what stands out most of all. The entire content base is made up of movies that feature porn shoots getting made and you get to see the work and play that goes on throughout the process. The episodes tend to be around 15-30 minutes on average though they range anywhere from a few minutes long to almost an hour.
- WMV Downloads, Flash Option Too. The video specs are fine and the quality is fairly good. They have full-movie downloadable WMV files plus in-browser Flash as another choice. These options seemed functional for the style of content they have as the theme is the main star and it doesn't require exceptional or high-def movie formats.
- Good Update & Video Length Info. These are the facts they provide about the episodes. Each is clearly stamped with the update details of when it was put online. The member's home page has a list of upcoming episodes. The movie length in minutes of each movie is also clearly posted which is actually quite helpful because of the differing lengths.
The Bads:
- Foreign Novelty Content, Semi-Erotic. While I clearly listed the uniqueness of the content as the most interesting quality there's some negatives that come along with that too. First, the shoots are not in English and though some have subtitles it takes away from understanding the interaction which is key to making behind-the-scenes shoots interesting. Also, this stuff is what I classify as novelty content which means it's not all that erotic or exciting and my interest waned fairly quickly.
- Young Site, Needs Time to Grow. Backstage 24 went online in the summer of 2008 which means that they are a young site and haven't had time to build up a large database of content. It'll be interesting to see over time how they keep up with the updates and how the site evolves.
Conclusion:
Backstage 24 delivers on its stated concept and does have a theme that makes it a fairly distinctive site. They seem to have established a pretty good foundation in terms of updating on a regular basis so we'll see how that plays out in the long term. If they keep it up they'll build up a nice amount of content. As it stands the $29.85/mo price seems high in comparison to the amount of stuff currently offered.
