Adult Rental obviously provides "rentals" of adult videos in the form of a VOD site. I'm not usually a huge fan of these sites since you pay a lot more for some porn videos than you would on a site like Video Box that gives you access to fully-downloadable videos at one low price. However, you can usually get higher-end studios to participate on a VOD site since they don't worry about their videos being shared. The setup is pretty straight forward, with users buying packages of minutes at various price points and then viewing whatever they want. An example package would be 225 minutes for $20, or 350 minutes for $30 giving you a minute of video for anywhere from 8 cents to 14 cents depending on how much you buy at once. They seem to keep pretty good track of the minutes used, as they break it down into hundredths of a minute which seems pretty good.
The goods:
- Pretty large collection overall. By paysite standards, when you're talking about offering over 8,000 DVD's in one member's area, you're doing pretty well. There are other VOD sites out there that have three times that many (or more?), but when you ignore those, they're doing pretty well here.
- Streaming server lets you watch what you want. It sucks that you can't download anything from what I saw, they do at least put all their videos on a true streaming server. This helps you jump around pretty easily to get to the fun parts (whatever they may be for your sick mind).
- Quality is decent. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's great, but it's pretty good all around. A bump to true DVD-quality at 720x480 and more than 2,000kbps wouldn't make me angry though.
The bads:
- Not really renting anything, can't download! I'm not sure why it's a rental when you're paying per-minute, even if you've already watched it before. They do have a three-day rental for $6, but that's separate from any minutes you purchased in a package it seems.
- Tons of videos, but there are larger VOD sites out there. You can't really be mad about 8,000+ DVD's, but it's safe to say that there are other similar sites out there with a lot more videos up unfortunately.
- Updates aren't dated. I'm not sure how often things are updated here at all, though somewhere I saw that they mentioned weekly updates. That's pretty slow compared to the top sites in the category, and not dating them makes me even more frustrated.
- Scenes aren't easy to find on a DVD. They have links to "scenes" which aren't really the beginning or end of scenes. It seems like they just place random links to certain markers in a movie, but those markers don't really relate to scenes at all.
- "High-def" videos aren't HD at all. I don't think there are many high-definition DVD's out there yet since that market segment is so new, so why do they call their highest quality high-definition? I'm not really sure. It's nowhere close.
- Expensive compared to non-VOD video sites. You'll pay a bit more here overall than on regular video paysites where you can download as much as you want. It's a given that you just have to deal with.
Conclusion:
Overall it's a pretty basic VOD site to me. They charge right in line with what others do, offer a pretty standard browsing experience, and seem to offer your pretty basic collection of porn movies. Nothing stood out as great, but nothing was awful either. I think it's another fine choice for VOD movies, and at this point things would mostly depend on them offering a certain studio or video series that you can't find on other sites I'd guess.

It looks like Adult Rental has basically doubled the number of DVD's they have up since our first visit, meaning they should hit the 20,000 DVD mark rather soon. I still have no real sense of an actual update schedule, but clearly it's not a huge problem. Otherwise, the site remains the same overall with lots of videos, decent quality, and a standard PPV setup. They've closed the size gap with other similar sites quite a bit, which is the biggest help this time around.
Score increased from 78.0 to 80.5.
