899movies.com is one large movie site brought to you by Smashbucks. It currently offers users more than 3,447+ movies covering a variety of different categories/niches. Key features that 899 Movies advertises are custom clip scenes, unlimited downloads and a low monthly membership. And while I wouldn't call $24.95 per month a super bargain, it's not too bad for so much content either. In terms of updates, multiple movies are being added somewhat randomly at this point, but additional site access should keep you busy in between.
The Good:
- Large archive of movies. There’s just a ton of DVD content here with categories ranging from DP, amateur, Asian, ATM and Euro Sex to Fat, gangbangs, mature, teen, femdom, and more. I can only imagine how long it would take to get through over close to 3,500+ full-length DVD's.
- Films are broken down by scene, and then each scene is further broken down into a filmstrip (much like the acclaimed Video Box where they probably got the idea from), which can be selected at any point in order to view the exact time frame/action you desire. Streams/downloads are offered at 150k, 384k and 800k with no limit for downloads.
- Additional site access. Your $24.95 monthly membership here also gives access to another 12 sites including Pornstar Classics, which we have previously reviewed.
- Content can be browsed by actor, studio or category. All of which are cross-linked for easy access to other similar videos. A keyword search feature sits at the top of the page.
The Bad:
- Updates aren't completely consistent and can sometimes be as long as 10 days in between. They average about 5-8 new videos per month, but compared to other video sites it just doesn't match up. Thankfully they've got the whole Network access going for them.
- Quality needs improvement. At this point, 800k quality streams just isn't cutting it. You can have the most videos online than any other site, but if you don't have the quality to back it up, the numbers are worthless to someone like me.
- A more complex search feature would be nice. You know, in case someone wants to see a fat, French chick with interracial, internal cumshots and natural tits.
- Non-exclusive content. The videos here can likely be found on any of the other hundred video sites out there.
The Conclusion:
While 899 Movies has the numbers game down, they're falling behind in terms of quality, site design and updates. Overall navigation is easy enough, but a lack of advanced search and browse features is disappointing. All videos are offered in WMV format, which I didn't mind, but may be not the best for everyone. The saving grace here comes with the additional site access, which includes another 12+ sites with your $24.95 monthly membership. I like that 899movies.com is giving its members the ability to start and stop clips wherever their hearts desire, but with Flash streams and higher quality content becoming the norm these days, it's time to step it up a little in order to compete.
